Sunday 8 July 2007
It is with a real sense of sadness that we announce the closure of our Elementary and Jr. High School. We will be unable to open for the 2007 fall term. However, the Preschool will remain open and continue to operate.
Our elementary enrollment has experienced a decline over the decade and a serious reduction in the last 4 years. This is largely due to the economic pressures families are feeling. In an attempt to keep the school strong, we took the difficult step of combining classes. We have trimmed expenses in every area we could without affecting the quality of education. None of this has been enough to offset the financial impact of the lower enrollment.
This is a very sad time for everyone involved with Nazarene Christian School. We love our students and their parents. NCS is a family and this decision affects us as a family. Some of our families have been with us since their children were in Preschool. And though most other Christian Schools in the area, as well as Long Beach Unified School District, are suffering losses in enrollment, that brings no comfort to us.
Please pray for our families as they try to find schools for their children. And pray for our staff as they seek other areas of employment.
